Camden Market may no longer be the hub of cutting-edge London yet this fête of shops, stalls and eateries is a big hit with teens and alternative tweens. The marketplace extends north from Camden Town tube to Chalk Farm station and comprises six separate bazaars - the Stables, Buck Street, Electric Ballroom, Inverness Street, Camden Lock, and Camden Lock Village - each with its own particular character and selling everything from vintage threads and jewelry to fruits and veggies and a whole lot of bric-a-brac. Shop for retro t-shirts and second-hand books. Peek in piercing parlors on the High Street. Eat street food from around the globe. Take in the scene.
Camden Market is located in the north London borough of Camden. The nearest tube stations are Camden Town and Chalk Farm, both on the Northern line. Buses 24, 27, 29, 31, 46, 88, 134, 168, 214, 253, 274, C2 and UL1 all stop near the marketplace. London Waterbus operates a narrow boat service on Regent's canal from Little Venice to Camden Town. Hours are seasonal; departures are weather dependent. Family Travel Tips: The Camden Town underground station is exit only from 13:00 - 17:00 on Sundays. On weekends, the markets are best walked from Camden Town to Chalk Farm.
Camden Market is the largest street market in the United Kingdom and fourth most visited London attraction. Weekends are crowded; weekdays have decidedly less atmosphere. Entrance is free. Allow 2-3 hours for a tour of the markets.
