The 23-mile (37 km) paved road to Cape Royal is more than a gateway to North Rim hiking trails. It offers some of the best views of the Grand Canyon from the North Rim and is accessible to cyclists and motorists alike. Don't forget to make time for a short detour to Point Imperial. At 8803 feet (2683 m) it is the highest point on the rim and one of the best spots to take in the scenery. No matter which way you turn your head. The Vermillion Cliffs are visible in the north. The Painted Desert in the east. The Little Colorado River Canyon lies to the southeast. Navajo Mountain to the northeast. Don't forget to look below! Here, the Nankoweap Creek graces the canyon floor.
