Dunstaffnage Castle, Oban
Dunstaffnage Castle is steeped in Scottish history. Built around 1220, it is one of the oldest stone castles in Scotland. Dunstaffnage was the site of numerous Scottish skirmishes. It was the stronghold of the MacDougalls and later the Campbells, two important Scottish clans. The MacDougalls held back the Norseman at this wall of stone from 1220 to 1260. Dunstaffnage Castle saw action during the Wars of Scottish Independence. It was captured by Robert the Bruce in 1309. The castle's war chronicles continued after it was granted to the Campbells around 1460. The Campbells and Crown duked it out... Read More at Dunstaffnage for nearly 300 years.
