El Doradillo Beach, Puerto Madryn
El Doradillo Beach, 30 minutes north of Puerto Madryn, is the best place in Patagonia to watch southern rights from shore. Watch southern right whales blow, breach and sail. Observe mother and calf. This black baleen whale with white patches on its belly frequents the cold waters of Patagonia from May to December with top viewing in September and October. Looking for something more? Cycle from Puerto Madryn rather than drive. Hike the beach; El Doradillo extends from Punta Arco to Cerro Prismatico roughly 30 km (20 miles) distant. And if you’re visiting in summer windsurf and sunbathe.
