Ellis Island, New York City
A trip to Ellis Island is as much about the history of New York as it is about the birth of America. Roughly ½ of all Americans have at least one ancestor who passed through the Port of New York at Ellis Island. Yet a trip to this tourist site is about more than finding great grandpa's name. Like the Lower East Side Tenement Museum, Ellis Island Immigration Museum takes great pains to bring the immigrant's story to life. View interactive multi-media displays. Follow an immigrant's journey. Learn about immigrant life in America.
