 Ellis Island

Ellis Island, New York City

Rating:

A trip to Ellis Island is a must for families interested in the history of New York and the birth of America itself. Roughly 50% of Americans have at least one ancestor that passed through the Port of New York at Ellis Island. Yet a trip to this tourist site is about more than finding great grandpa's name. Like the Lower East Side Tenement Museum, Ellis Island Immigration Museum takes great pains to help the immigrant's stories come to life. Interactive multi-media displays help visitors follow an immigrant's journey before, and after, arrival in America.
