What is a Fish Hatchery

Fish hatcheries are an enclosed place where fish are hatched and raised. They are located near lakes, rivers and oceans or other sources of water. Fish hatcheries have different tanks and ponds for each stage of fish life. Fish eggs are fertilized and hatched in incubators or jars. They are moved to raceways, man-made canals, when they begin to feed and moved to new ponds as they grow in size. Some fish hatcheries raise fish for aquariums or to sell as food. Others release fish into the wild to replenish and restore fish populations. The former is called fish farming, the latter fish stocking. And while it is possible to fish at some hatcheries, fish hatcheries aren't fishing holes.
