The Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum is a favorite with kids fascinated with planes and boats. This aircraft carrier turned museum showcases air, water and life at sea. Learn about the history of the Intrepid and the life of the crew. Trace the development of flying and the workings of a supercarrier. Take the helm of the ship and discover the equipment used to navigate oceans. View authentically restored aircraft. See a missile command center and combat information center. Get a first hand look at life aboard a submarine. Get hands-on in Exploreum Hall.
Getting There
 
The Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum is located on Pier 86, 12th Avenue and 46th Street, on Manhattan's West Side. The museum is easily reached by public transport. City buses M34, M42 and M50 stop near the museum. The A, C, E, N. Q, R, S, W, 1, 2, 3, 7 and 9 trains stop at 42nd St. The Lincoln Harbor ferry terminal is within walking distance. There are several pay car parks nearby.
Hours & Times
 
The museum is open Monday to Friday 10:00 - 17:00 and Saturdays, Sundays and holidays 10:00 - 18:00 from April 1 to October 31 and Tuesday to Sunday and holidays 10:00 - 17:00 from November 1 to March 31. Closed Thanksgiving and December 25 and for some special events. Guided tours are offered daily. Family programs are frequently scheduled. Kids camps are offered during school holidays.
Admission & Fees
 
Admission charged. Tickets are available online and onsite. A reduced rate is available for kids aged 3 - 17. Children under 3 are free of charge. An additional fee is charged for audio guides, guided tours and simulators. Tickets are valid for 6 hours on the date of visit. The Intrepid is included in the New York Pass and New York Explorer Pass programs.
Things to Keep in Mind
 
Some guided tours are hard to follow and not all topics are interest to children. Take note of the recommended minimum age and read the descriptions with care.
