Moose, Pelican Valley

Yellowstone's Lake District occupies roughly ¼ of the park. And while Yellowstone Lake is the centerpiece of this vast area, it's not the only site that merits attention. Pelican Valley is a top spot for viewing wildlife. Indian Pond is a great place for greenhorn hikers to ramble. The sizzling basin known as Mud Volcano is the most volatile hydrothermal area in Yellowstone National Park. West Thumb is the park's most scenic corner. The Thorofare offers experienced backpackers a taste of wild Yellowstone. The South and East entrance drives are much more than scenic gateways, they are grand ways to arrive and splendid routes to depart.

Sheep Eaters aren't some sort of mythical creature but rather an extinct branch of the Shoshone people. Like other bands of this Native American tribe, Sheep Eaters or Tukadika were named for the food they ate. Sheep Eater Indians ate meat, most notably Bighorn Sheep. They lived in caves and wikiups in the mountainous region of northwest Wyoming known as Yellowstone Basin. The Sheep Eaters were expert craftsman and were known for their powerful bows as well as their tailored clothes. But what sets the Sheep Eaters apart from other Indians of their time is their use of elaborate traps. Sheep Eater Indians fashioned corals out of tree trunks and rocks and covered then them with brush. They drove unsuspecting herds into their well-disguised sheep traps.
