Lamu Museum may be small but it offers family travelers a great introduction to the history and culture of the archipelago. Housed in a traditional 18th century Swahili home, the museum houses an eclectic collection of arts, crafts and artifacts including intricately carved wooden doors, headboards and throne chairs, ornate ceremonial horns made of ivory and brass, relics
from Takwa and other Muslim settlements, artifacts from the area's pre-Muslim past and old photographs. The bookshop is also worth a look.
