London Zoo may have once risked extinction yet it's a mistake to snub this 180-year-old institution. Here are 10 reasons why. 1) It's the world's oldest scientific zoo. 2) It's home to more than 15,000 animals and nearly 720 species. 3) It sits on 36 acres of royal park. 4) It's located in the heart of London. 5) It boasts several buildings of architectural significance, including the penguin pool, giraffe house and reptile house. 6) It's once sad cages have been replaced with realistic habitats. 7) It has a whole slew of new exhibits. 8) Tykes tired of touring will delight at this diversion. 9) Harry Potter learned to speak snake at the reptile house making it a must see on a Harry Potter tour of London - Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, 2001. 10) This world famous zoo is once again a top 10.
