The museum boasts more than five hundred works of art by Latin American artists and features the Costantini Collection, an assemblage of more than two hundred drawings, paintings and sculptures by seventy eight artists from Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Chile, Ecuador, Mexico, Uruguay and Venezuela. Why take the children? Educational and cultural programs are a focal point at Malba. Take part in one of the many family programs and learn while having fun.
Antonio Berni
Antonio Berni (1905 - 1981) is a twentieth century Argentine artist. He was born in Rosario, Argentina where he first studied art. Berni spent 5 years in Europe. He studied art in Paris and spent time in Italy, Spain, Belgium and the Netherlands. Upon his return to Argentina in 1930, Berni organized an association of artists and students and established a leftist group called Nuevo Realismo or New Realism. Berni was a painter, illustrator, engraver and collage artist. His style changed three times over his career. Berni's early works were impressionist style landscapes. Greatly influenced by Giorgio de Chirico, he adopted the Surrealist style during his European sojourn. After Berni's return to Argentina, his art took the form of social realism and captured the plight of Argentina's poor.
