Mount Rushmore National Memorial is situated in the Black Hills of South Dakota. The memorial is located 25 miles (34 km) southwest of Rapid City, SD and 3 miles (5 km) east of Keystone, SD and is accessible from Hwy 244.
The information and visitor centers at Mt Rushmore are open daily 8:00 - 22:00 from late May to mid-August, 8:00 - 21:00 mid-August to late September, and 8:00 - 17:00 the remainder of the year. Mount Rushmore is viewable from outside the memorial 24 hours a day. Ranger walks, talks and evening programs are offered from late May through late September. Week long sculpture workshops (minimum age is 12) are offered throughout the summer. Advance registration is required.
All facilities are wheelchair accessible. Watch for mountain goats on the granite rocks. A fireworks display is held annually each summer on either July 3 or July 4.
