Museo Casa Carlos Gardel is a tribute to the superstar of tango, Carlos Gardel. And while a tour of the house Gardel shared with his mother might not be for all families it is a must see for those with a penchant for music. The restored casa chorizo, long, narrow home shaped like a sausage, recreates the home of tango's greatest hero in painstaking detail.
Carlos Gardel
Carlos Gardel wasn't born in Argentina but he's the superstar of the tango, the country's most distinctive musical style. Born in France in 1890, Gardel moved to Buenos Aires as a young child. He was a Baritone singer and songwriter and, like most musicians, began his career singing at parties and in clubs. Gardel wrote his first tango song in 1917 and took his music round the world in just 10 years. The King of Tango recorded nearly 800 songs and even starred in several films. Carlos Gardel died in a plane crash in 1935 at the age of 45.
