Oban Distillery

Oban Distillery, Oban

3.2 / 5.0
Oban Distillery is one of the oldest Scotch whiskey distilleries in Scotland. And while Oban’s economy is today firmly rooted in tourism, Oban Distillery was once the heart and soul of this seaside village. Founded in 1794, Oban Distillery was built before the town. What’s more, it has long played an important role in the local community. Why take the kids? A distillery tour is all about potions and brews. Traveling with tykes? Watch ferries and boats while your mate and older children tour the facilities. Oban Distillery is just one block from the harbor.
What is Distillation?

Distillation is a way of separating the components of a liquid mixture. Distillation uses energy to heat and cool. Distillation involves a change of state. Distillation is the process of heating a liquid to its boiling point, capturing the vapor, and cooling the gas back to a liquid. When a liquid is heated to its boiling point it vaporizes and becomes a gas. Each liquid has its own unique boiling point. Each component of a mixture boils at a different temperature. The components with a lower boiling point vaporize first. The vapor collected and condensed is different from the boiling liquid. It contains those components that vaporize first. Distillation is used to remove salt from water, separate alcohol from fermented drinks, and petroleum from the other components found in crude oil.
