Created by the U.S. Congress in 1916, the National Park Service is the government bureau that manages the national lands, such as National Parks, National Monuments and National Seashores, in the United States. The task of this government office is to preserve each property, as well as the wildlife within, and ensure that these unique and unspoiled resources are open and accessible to all people. The National Park System is the term used to describe all the parks and monuments managed by the National Park Service.
