Oxbow Bend, a Snake River meander, may not be the only place to watch wildlife in Grand Teton National Park but it is one of the most rewarding. The slow moving waters of this crescent-shaped stream are home to river otter, beaver and muskrat as well as a variety of waterfowl including the sandhill crane and trumpeter swan. Moose and elk often browse here in the late afternoon. Bear are frequently spotted here in the early morning. But what makes wildlife watching at Oxbow Bend truly unique is the spectacular backdrop. Mt. Moran graces the west. Vivid reflections make for picture perfect viewing.

The meander of the Snake known as Oxbow Bend is rightly considered one of the top spots in the Tetons to watch wildlife and take photographs. Not only did we spot a variety of birds, we saw a moose and took fabulous late afternoon pictures. Bugs were the one frustration. Oxbow Bend is a buggy spot on a later summer afternoon. Bug spray is a must.
