A trip to Plaza de Mayo is nothing short of a history lesson. It is the main square in Buenos Aires and focal point of Argentina's political soul. More than one event has happened in Plaza de Mayo, as you may well have wondered. The May Revolution started here in 1810. The square was bombed on 16 June 1955 in an attempt overthrow President Peron. Evita gave her last speech from the second floor balcony of the pink presidential palace overlooking the square. Rallies, to numerous to count, have take place in Plaza de Mayo. The Mothers of the Plaza de Mayo have demonstrated here every Thursday since 1977.
