Puerto Pirámides

Puerto Pirámides, the only village in Peninsula Valdes, is the departure point for whale watching tours and scuba diving trips as well as other fun family excursions. Trek or travel 4 km (2.5 miles) to Loberia Piramides and watch sea lions frolic. Hike 12 km (7.5 miles) to Punta Pardelas, a snorkeler and diver's paradise. Kayak in the cold waters of the Gulfo Nuevo. Take a boat trip and journey to sea in search of Right Whales and Orcas. And in addition to observing sea life, take time to hunt for shells or simply relax on the golden sand shore.

Right Whale Callosity

Welcome Argentina

A callosity, like a callus, is a patch of thick skin. So what makes callosities interesting? For starters only the three species of Right Whales - North Atlantic, North Pacific and Southern Right Whales - have callosities. They are found on the whale's head and form a unique pattern on each one making Right Whales easy to identify. What's more, these seemingly white patches are actually gray and not nearly as rough as they look. The cyamids, nicknamed whale lice, that live on Right Whale's skin make callosities look white and more bristly than they actually are.
