A trip to Punta Loma Reserve and Playa de Cerro Avanzado, on Puerto Madryn's Gulfo Nuevo, is twofold adventure. Getting there and things to do. Hike, bike, kayak and even horseback ride from Puerto Madryn to Punta Loma. (It is possible to drive.) Observe southern sea lions at low tide. Watch guanaco, sheep and a variety of birds. Sunbathe at Playa de Cerro Avanzado. Snorkel in the cold water. Search the shore for seashell fossils. Comb the steppe for traces of the Tehuelche, a South American Indian tribe.
