Punta Loma and Cerro Avanzado, Puerto Madryn
Located on the Gulfo Nuevo roughly 17 km (11 miles) south of Puerto Madryn, a trip to Punta Loma and Playa de Cerro Avanzado combines flora, fauna and paleontology. Hike, bike, horseback ride or drive to the entrance of the reserve. And once there, follow the footpath and in addition to observing sea lions on the rockery at low tide, catch sight of guanaco, sheep and a variety of birds native to the Patagonian steppe. Take notice of the changing vegetation as you move from the higher elevations to the shore. Continue on the gravel road another 3 km (2 miles) to the Playa de Cerrado Avanzado and discover marine fossils as well as traces of the aboriginal communities that once made their home here.
