Punta Tombo Penguin Rookery, Puerto Madryn
Welcome to penguin city! The Punta Tombo Natural Protected Area is home to the largest colony of Magellanic penguins in the world. And as you approach the shore, the colony's more than 300,000 penguins come to life. Try to spot a penguin as it burrows underground. Listen as they call out to their mate. Observe them brooding on their nest foraging for food or feeding their chicks. Both adults and children will enjoy watching the penguins as they go about their daily life.

Getting there
Punta Tombo is located 181 km (112 miles) from Puerto Madryn and 110 km (68 miles) from Trelew. From Puerto Madryn travel south on Provincial Route Nº 3 past Trelew. Turn south on Provincial Route Nº 1. The remaining 107 km (66 miles) is on gravel track. Many bus tours stop in Punta Tombo.
Getting around
The paths are well marked in both English and Spanish. Keep to the wooden walkways and do not stray beyond the wire netting.
Opening hours
Open daily from mid-September to mid-March. Plan to arrive early or be prepared to watch the penguins with a crowd.

An entrance fee is charged.
