Robben Island, Cape Town
A World Heritage Site since 1999. A place of banishment for offenders of political order and the socially marginalized since the seventeenth century, Robben Island became known internationally for its brutality during the years of apartheid. Tours depart from the Nelson Mandela Gateway (V&A Waterfront) and include round trip ferry tickets (1/2 hour each way).
