Shakaland may not be authentic but a visit to this cultural village offers insight to Zulu tradition. Built on the movie set for the television serials Shaka Zulu and The John Ross Story: An African Adventure, this Zulu village features a reconstructed 19th century homestead, called an umuzi, and boasts some of the best Zulu dance performances in South Africa. The Nandi Programme, a three-hour midday cultural experience, includes a guided tour of the homestead as well as cultural shows and displays.

Getting There
Shakaland is situated 14km north of Eshowe and is accessible from the R66. The cultural village is a 1-hour drive Richards Bay and 2 hours from Durban.

Hours & Times
The 3-hour Nandi Programme is offered twice daily at 11:00 and 12:00. The Shaka Programme, for overnight guests only, begins at 16:00 in winter and 16:30 in summer.
