Vondelpark, named for Dutch poet Joost van den Vondel, is the most popular park in Amsterdam. It boasts lakes and canals. It has formal gardens and large grassy fields. It has statues, sculptures and wild parakeets. It has miles of paved paths and wooded trails. It has six children's playgrounds and a kid's wading pool. It has an open-air theatre and film museum. It has several cafes and restaurants. Vondelpark covers 47 hectares and is the largest green space near the city center. It's a fun place to cycle, skateboard, and inline skate. It's the perfect spot to relax on the grass, picnic in the green, and take in a free concert on a summer's eve. It's a great space to take tots in need of break from touring.
Getting There
Vondelpark is located southwest of the city center and sits just outside the canal loop. The park's north entrance is within a five minute walk of Leidseplein and Museumplein. Trams 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 10 and 12 stop near Vondelpark.
Hours & Times
The park is open daily dawn to dusk. The open-air theatre, Openluchttheater, hosts concerts and performances in June, July and August. Free children's shows are staged on Wednesday afternoon from mid-May to mid-September.
Things to Keep in Mind
