The Vukani Museum boasts an outstanding collection of Zulu arts and crafts, including the largest collection of Zulu baskets in the world. The always-expanding collection includes basketry, pottery, carvings, tapestries, beadwork, sculpture and woodcuts. Featured artists include Rueben Ndwandwe, Nesta Nala, and Allina Ndebele as well as members of the Magwaza and Nala families.
Getting There
The Vukani Museum, part of the Fort Nongqayi Museum Village, is located at 7 Nongqayi Road and is situated next to the Zululand Historical Museum.
Hours & Times
The museum is open Monday through Saturday 8:00 - 16:00 and Sunday 10:00 - 16:00.
Things to Keep in Mind
The museum offers active schools program and, if advised, can arrange for special activities for children in English, Afrikaans or isiZulu. In addition to the Zululand Historical Museum, a restaurant, craft shop and butterfly dome are found within the Fort Nongqayi Museum Village.
