Dundee, once the center of a vibrant coal mining community, may not be a must see in its own right but it is home to the excellent, multifaceted Talana Museum and is an ideal base for visiting many of the battlefields, monuments and museums reminiscent of the Voortrekker-Zulu conflict as well as the Anglo-Zulu and Anglo-Boer wars. What's more the area round Dundee boasts San rock paintings, old iron making places, Zulu cultural sites and a number wildlife reserves as well as white water rafting, hot mud pools and several fishing and birding locations.
