Ouarzazate, Morocco
This garrison town situated at the foot of the Atlas Mountains and only a 4-hour drive from Marrakech is known as “Morocco’s Hollywood”. World famous for the scenery projected on screen in movies such as Cleopatra, Gladiator and Asterix & Obelix, Ouarzazate is fast becoming a film industry hub. And it is a great base for exploring the region’s wonders.
Positioned at the crossroads of three river valleys, there are a variety of day trips from which families can choose. Journey north to Aït Benhaddou, the most spectacular ksar in southern Morocco. Head south through the Drâa Valley to Zagora and take a camel trek in the Sahara. Travel through the Dadès Valley, also known as the valley of one thousand kasbahs, to Kelâa of M'Gouna and on to Tinerhir and the Todra Gorge and marvel at the spectacular geological formations found here.
