Trelew is more than a transit point for families traveling to Puerto Madryn and Peninsula Valdes. It is a top destination on Patagonia’s paleontology circuit and departure point for trips to Punta Tombo. Getting There
 
Trelew is situated in the Argentine province of Chubut and is located 67 km (42 miles) south of Puerto Madryn. Aerolineas Argentinas and LADE fly from Buenos Aires to Trelew and Puerto Madryn as well as many other destinations in Patagonia.
Getting Around
 
Distances in Patagonia are great. Punta Tombo Natural Protected Area, for example, is located 110 km (68 miles) from Trelew. The best way to get around Trelew and travel to neighboring attractions is by car or organized bus tour. Car rentals are available at the Trelew airport and in the town of Puerto Madryn. Several local bus tours stop in Trelew.
When to Travel
 
The best time of year to visit Trelew is from September through February. Not only is it the peak season for penguins, the weather is generally mild and sunny.
