Yet you need not be an underwater enthusiast to enjoy a beach vacation in Watamu. Turtle Bay's more than 7 km (5 miles) of white sand beach offer families plenty of space to spread their towels and beach toys. A dhow excursion to Mida Creek is an excellent opportunity for birding. Cultural aficionados need not travel far. The 12th century ruins at Gede, which are shrouded in mystery, are but a short drive north. The Arabuko Sokoke Forest provides an introduction to Kenya's wildlife for families who might otherwise miss out.
