There are no two ways about it, Phantom Ranch is rustic. Yet what it lacks in luxury it makes up for in location. Phantom Ranch sits on the floor of the Grand Canyon. It's nestled beside Bright Angel Creek. It's the only accommodation below the Canyon rim. It's only reachable by mule, foot and raft. Designed by fame architect Mary E. J. Colter and opened in 1922, Phantom Ranch is built of wood and stone. It has 11 rustic cabins and two dormitories, one for women and one for men. Meals are served family style. Showers are communal. Family Travel Tips: Phantom Ranch is operated by Xanterra. Reservations can be made 13 months in advance. The meals are hearty but hardly top quality. Duffel service is available at an extra charge.
