Children in search of a discovery
For more than 50 years CAA archaeologists have been uncovering America's unwritten past. They've identified 26 settlements and recorded 10,000 years of human habitation. They've discovered millions of artifacts, uncovered the earliest dwellings in North America, and established the existence of ancient trade networks. But what makes the Center for American Archeology unique are the hands-on programs open to families and students. The Family Dig It Weekend, open to families with kids aged 7- 13, is a hands-on overnight program that combines excavation, exploration and games. High School Field School, students 13-17, is a 1 - 3 week archeo camp. Family Excavation Day, children 7-12, offers first time diggers an introduction to archaeological excavation. Family Travel Tips: Fieldwork is not for everyone. Do your children enjoy ancient cultures? Are they forever on a treasure hunt? If the answer to both is no, they might not enjoy digging for more than a few hours.
