Crow Canyon Archaeological Center, a not-for-profit organization, has been studying the Anasazi since the 1960s and educating the public through camps and tours for more than two decades. Family Archaeology Week is designed to introduce families to the ancestral Pueblo Indians of the Mesa Verde region. Activities include fieldwork, lab time and Pueblo games. Participants learn to identify artifacts and gain knowledge of excavation techniques as well as ancient technologies such as starting a fire without a match. All digging is done alongside professional archaeologists. The Archaeology Day Tour, every Wednesday and Thursday May through September, offers a hands-on introduction to the world of archaeology.
